Cardi B, Skrillex to headline VELD Festival at Downsview Park
Other fests are taking a break, but VELD — the annual all-ages electronic-music festival at Downsview Park — announced Monday it’ll be back on the Aug. 3-4 weekend for year eight, with headliners Cardi B, Kygo, Skrillex and Tiesto.
Cardi B is not the first rapper to top the bill, but ticket-buyers can only hope that there are no complications; last year Migos hit the stage two hours late and played a truncated set, Lil Uzi Vert couldn’t get across the border in 2017 and Travis Scott was likewise a no-show in 2016.
Down the lineup for this year’s fest the dozens of names include Alesso, Kodak Black, new Juno winners Loud Luxury, Zeds Dead and Jaden Smith. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, March 21; see veldmusicfestival.com for details but those details don’t, as of Monday, include any word on prices.
Last week the Dreams festival (formerly Digital Dreams) announced its own electronic lineup for its two days June 29 and 30 at Echo Beach, with Rezz and Zedd (no relation to Zeds Dead) among the performers.
Other shows announced Monday:
- R&B singer/producer and YouTube personality Alex Aiono plays an all-ages show June 23 at the Phoenix; tickets ($25-$35) on sale March 22 from livenation.com and ticketmaster.ca.
- Renowned physicist Professor Brian Cox, having sold out a May 7 show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, has announces a second Toronto date (May 6) for his immersive LED-screen show as part of his world tour 2019. Tickets for the new date go on sale on March 20 via Ticketmaster.ca; prices have not bee revealed.
